Like father, like son: Another Shelton to lead MCHS. Marshall County pride runs deep in the Shelton family. Anyone who
doubts it needs only to take a look at 2-year old Emma Shelton. “Her favorite color is not orange, it’s Marshall County orange,” Scott
Shelton said of his daughter during a press conference Thursday to
introduce him as the new head football coach at Marshall County High
School. Emma stood in her MCHS cheerleader’s outfit as her dad described how it
feels to have the opportunity to live his dream of leading the football
program.

The Gum Chair: Art Project. Renita Gourieux doesn’t quite remember where she came up with the idea
to plaster used chewing gum over a desk. But so far, it’s getting rave
reviews.
Gourieux, art teacher at Marshall County High School, thought it might
be a neat idea to get all students involved with a central piece of
art. Although many would think disgusting or full of germs, the
students don’t seem phased too much by it. After all, the desk is not
only made up of gum, but a heavy dose of Lysol as well.

Sheep stealing and other sins. Back when I earned my daily bread as a religion editor I got to know
more than a few pastors. Most of them did a truly admirable job of
hating sin. I think we would all agree that hating sin is one of the
necessary qualifications for anyone seriously considering a career as a
pastor. Deep down, though, I had my suspicions that a few of the
pastors I knew liked sin almost as much as I do.
Out-of-town street solicitations raise questions. ames Borders moves slowly down the line of cars, pointing the plastic
bucket he holds in his hand at each driver in turn and attempting to
make eye contact. Some watch silently without responding as he makes his way down the
line of cars before the light changes. Others avert their gaze till he
passes. A few roll their window down far enough to thrust an arm
through and toss a single bill — rarely is it more than one — into the
bucket.
Sheriff, wrecker drivers reach accord. An after-hours meeting between Marshall County wrecker service
providers and Sheriff Kevin Byars has resolved complaints concerning
controversial changes to the longstanding “next on list” system of
dispatching wreckers.

he was thankful that Byars took the time to meet with the service
providers and that they appreciated his willingness to come back to the
table to discuss the matter.
ŒWe need help. Robbed.‚. Mike Green has been saving change in three green five-gallon buckets
for about five years now, ever since he and his family moved into their
new house at 7523 Brewers Highway. He and his wife, Susan, set aside one bucket for each of their three
children, Mabry, Clay and Will, for them to use, or save, when they got
older.
But now, they don’t get to use it.
